Hole Opener Design
The polycrystalline composition was developed to minimize cutter edge deterioration in high-temperature and impact environments. PDC has a polycrystalline synthetic diamond which makes drilling efficient. We have designed and made Hole Openers for numerous different applications, and still, innovate. All Rockpecker products are designed and manufactured in-house, this allows us to respond to unique client requirements and modifications in short lead times.
The drill bit design includes an engineered gauge pad with a stripe that manages side cutting response using lateral depth-of-cut (DOC) control. This improves tracking to hold azimuth and inclination, increasing penetration (ROP) rate and reducing dogleg severity for improved wellbore quality and a more efficient completion design. The PDC Hole Opener comprises a blade having a gauge cutter operable to cut an earth formation at the gauge diameter, and a protective insert coupled with the drill bit such that a portion of the protective insert extends beyond the gauge diameter by a selected over-gauge distance, wherein the protective insert is operable to engage the casing inner wall to substantially prevent the gauge cutter from engaging the casing inner wall as the drill bit is positioned through a selected length of the casing.
